MICHELE WILES WINS ERIK BRUHN PRIZE Michele Wiles, a Soloist with American Ballet Theatre, won first prize at the Sixth International Competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize held in Toronto on Monday, May 20. In competing for the Erik Bruhn Prize, Wiles danced Grand Pas Classique and the bedroom pas de deux from Act II of Manon.

The Choreographic Prize went to Marc Jubete, a soloist at the Hamburg Ballet, for his work, Remember. The International Competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize is held every two years and was conceived by Erik Bruhn prior to his death in 1986. Bruhn, a leading male dancer of his generation and former Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada, established the competition for the encouragement and recognition of young dancers. The Erik Bruhn Prize: Legacy of a Closeted Ballet Great Erik Bruhn (1928-1986) was a renowned Danish dancer and choreographer. He began his career at the Royal Danish Ballet, but toured with the Joffrey, the Paris Opera Ballet, the Royal Ballet of London, and many other companies.

The three events in the tour offer a total amount of prizemoney of €129 000.

For 11th time, 10 young dancers from five major international companies compete at home of the National Ballet of Canada for the Erik Bruhn Prize.
